HERITAGE & RESILIENCE: BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO STRUCTURES


SEWC Congresses are gatherings of a wholly distinctive standing. This is where the leading authorities of the field meet – the authors of breakthrough solutions and the visionaries of modern engineering. We are proud that in 2027 the vanguard of world civil engineering comes to Poland for the first time in history, with the City of Łódź and Lodz University of Technology as hosts.
Łódź is a city that is itself a masterpiece of transformation. With the magnificent structures of the former textile empires at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the residential building stock raised in the same years, it is today a city pulsing with life and modern services. Two MIPIM Awards – the Oscars of real estate – for the conversion of former factories, and the largest residential regeneration programme in Europe, make it a working laboratory of revitalisation. Here world-class experts will see at first hand how modern engineering breathes new life into post-industrial heritage.
Five days of intensive meetings, sessions, lectures and workshops lie ahead. We will bring together innovation in designing new structures and adapting existing ones with advanced risk engineering and reliability analysis. „W myśleniu sens, w działaniu racja” – sense in thinking, reason in action – will guide this exceptional gathering.
The Event is organised by the Fundacja „W myśleniu sens, w działaniu racja” Foundation. Lodz University of Technology is the Main Partner of the Congress. explored.

CONFERENCE TOPICS:
Abstracts are accepted in seven thematic areas and in an open category:

• Structural reliability and risk engineering
 Probabilistic methods in design and in the assessment of existing structures, safety assessment.
• Critical infrastructure, dual-use facilities and extreme actions
 Bridges and infrastructure, wind, seismic action, flood, fire, robustness against exceptional events.
• Artificial intelligence, real structures
 AI models in structural design and optimisation, surrogate models reducing the number of FE simulations, AI-assisted code-compliance checking, and the training and fine-tuning of AI models on structural engineering data.
• Revitalisation, adaptive reuse and sustainability
 Extending the service life of structures, embodied carbon, reuse of load-bearing elements, industrial and heritage buildings.
• Modern materials and structural systems
 Steel, concrete and reinforced concrete structures, glulam and CLT, connections and hybrid systems.
• Lightweight and special structures
 Cable, membrane and pneumatic systems, long-span roofs.
• Structural health monitoring and digital twins
 Load-capacity monitoring, sensors, measurement-calibrated models, predictive maintenance.
• Other topics
 An open category. A submission that does not fall within any of the areas above but concerns structures – their design, execution, assessment or maintenance. We do not reject a topic merely because it was not on the list.
