On March 30, Stefan J. Medwadowski died at the age of 102. He was President of IASS 1991-2000, a Torroja Medalist 1991 and an Honorary Member 2001. He was a long-time member of the Executive Council, including a few terms as Vice President, several years as Editor of the Journal of the IASS and Chair of Working Group 5 on Concrete Shells.

The IASS celebrated aspects of his life, career, structural designs and contributions to the Association in a paper published at the conclusion of his presidency: J.F. Abel, "Structures by Stefan J. Medwadowski," Journal of the IASS, Vol. 41 (2000) No. 3 December n.134, pp. 137-146.
